Los Angeles County Public Library Work Ready Program

To help people identify jobs and careers that can support themselves, their families, and dreams, I conceive, coordinate, moderate and participate on professional panels representing various fields. Recent panels included careers in fundraising, cosmetology, and the trade professions presented virtually and posted on the LACL website.

Topanga Authors’ Group & TRANSPORT Topanga Literary Festival

For four years, I produced monthly readings, presentations, panels, workshops, and roundtables at the Topanga Library in California’s Santa Monica Mountains to bring together writers on the page, stage, and screen with readers and story lovers. As our numbers grew,  we then shared the love of the written word with the larger community by holding a literary festival.

In 2016 and 2017, I collaborated with Oleg Kagan at Topanga Library to conceive of and produce a two-day celebration of story. We called it TRANSPORT, because that’s what stories do. TRANSPORT provided a joyful venue for sharing written works and spawned new collaborations, such as the Loose Lips Poetry Series with Millicent Borges-Accardi and Jean Colonomos, and debuted the first novel of teenaged author Cass Briskman.

Robin Lithgow, author, educator, activist

In collaboration with Susan Shankin of Precocity Press, we championed author and educator Robin Lithgow pursuit to bring her manuscript, about the education of Shakespeare and his generation of playwrights, to educators, students, and Shakespeare scholars.

We conceived and developed a book proposal plan to identify potential publishers for this important contribution to the field. I then provided a late-stage developmental edit of the manuscript. The result was the publication of Lessons from Shakespeare’s Classroom Empowering Learning Through Drama and Rhetoric by Routledge in 2023.

The Wooden Floor

This thriving dance education organization in Orange County, California contracted the Centers for Research on Creativity to develop and deploy an assessment tool every year for ten years. The purpose of the longitudinal study was to better understand the impacts and outcomes of dance on students between third and twelfth grade.

In addition to managing the study, I contributed to developing the assessment tool, wrote reports and the chapter proposal for inclusion in Arts and Assessment Arts Evaluation and Assessment: Measuring Impact in Schools and Communities (Palgrave MacMillan, 2018). When the proposal was accepted, I contributed writing and edited the chapter. Recently, at the conclusion of the study, I was independently contracted to write the white paper. Forthcoming.
